Spring cleaning is a chore that no one particularly likes doing, but we all agree we feel a lot better when we can sit down with our feet up in a sparkling, shining home. Getting the motivation to start, however, can feel like a chore in and of itself but thankfully, there are plenty of tips and tricks out there to make cleaning that bit easier. From investing in vacuum repair services Suffolk to picking up a tub or two of bicarbonate of soda, here are our tips and tricks for spring cleaning your home.

Declutter

First of all, you need to declutter. Deep cleaning your home will be practically impossible while it’s filled to the brim with clutter and rubbish that hasn’t seen the light of day over the winter. From cleaning out your wardrobe and throwing away any unwanted clothes, to digging through cupboards and getting rid of anything you don’t need, cleaning out will give you a lot more room to organise what you do want to keep. Sort the things you’re going to get rid of into piles: things that need to be thrown away, things you can donate, and things you could sell. It’s important to be relentless – have you used it in the past year or two? Can you realistically see yourself using it again? If the answer’s no, it’s time to say goodbye.

Deep Clean Your Carpets

Once you’ve gotten all of the clutter out of the way, you can start your deep clean and your carpets are a good place to start. The amount of dust, dirt and grime that collects in the carpet can be surprising and it’s not until you break out the carpet shampoo that you’ll really notice just how much the colour has changed over the years. A good deep clean will restore the original colour, bring back it’s original texture and give the entire room a complete lift!

Set Realistic Goals

A good spring clean is never going to be done in a day and being realistic about that fact and planning your spring clean schedule can help you get your home ready for the summer without tiring yourself out or losing motivation halfway through. Why not dedicate a day per room? If you finish the room earlier than planned, take the rest of the afternoon to relax. Whatever the case, you need to create a step-by-step plan for your cleaning in order to not only ensure that everything is done, but that you don’t lose momentum halfway through.

Remember The Difficult Areas!

We all get wrapped up cleaning the obvious spots. The shower, the toilet, the carpets, the sofas – they’re all pretty obvious choices for a good spring clean, but what about those harder-to-reach places that often go ignored during the year? The back and top of your fridge, the top of ceiling fan blades, the inside of the washing machine, around the windows, around the door frames and even inside the light fixtures can all gather dirt throughout the year and now is the perfect time to finally break out the cleaning supplies and get it sparkling and clean.

Pick Up Some Bicarbonate Of Soda

If you’re ever stuck on what chemical will do some hardcore cleaning while browsing the supplies, bypass them completely and pick up some bicarbonate of soda. Bicarbonate Of Soda and relevant mixtures can help you clean everything including stained plastic containers, the inside of a bad-smelling fridge, greasy dishes and pans, musty upholstery, pet beds, grubby toys and even dusty stuffed toys. That greasy barbeque you just can’t get clean ready for summer? Sprinkle some of Bicarbonate of Soda onto your brush before scrubbing to remove all of the grime. You could even put some in the bottom of an old bin to help eliminate the smells and odours coming from it. It’s truly magical and always handy to keep around for those difficult cleaning jobs.

Spring cleaning might leave us with aching limbs, but the ability to sit back and relax in the knowledge that it’s done is always worth it. Why not try one of the tips we’ve listed above for this year’s spring clean?
