Shepherd’s pie has been my go-to food since I was a child! This very easy dish makes me happy and takes me back to my childhood. It has layers of ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes and cheese.

Yes, I know that Cottage Pie is the right name for this dish. Since the Middle Ages, Cottage Pie was made with ground beef and Shepherd’s Pie was made with sheep. But I grew up calling it Shepherd’s Pie, and even though the name isn’t always correct, I’ll stick with it.

This very easy dish makes me happy and takes me back to my childhood. It has layers of ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes and cheese.

This is my favourite comfort food. On days when I just want to remember how innocent I was as a child, I make a delicious Shepherd’s Pie in the kitchen. Learn more about shepherd’s pie with corn on top.

The Best Way to Make Shepherd’s Pie

You can easily get a few key items at your local grocery store to make this Irish comfort food classic.

  • Beef on the Ground
  • Instant mashed potatoes (you can also make your own from scratch if you’d rather)
  • Corn in a can
  • Sauce from Worcestershire
  • 1/2 onion, cut up
  • Bread and cheese

This recipe is very easy to follow. It’s full of flavour and tastes great the next day too.

How to Make the Best Shepherd’s Pie Quickly

Set your oven to 350° before you begin.

First, you need to cook the ground beef. Cook the ground beef in a pan with the diced onion until it is fully cooked. When it’s done, add one to two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and mix it in. Take it off the heat and put it in a baking dish.

After that, you’ll make your mashed potatoes. I really do use quick mashed potatoes. You can use potatoes that you’ve grown yourself, but I find that takes too much time. But I don’t just use the quick mashed potatoes from the bag.

I like to add some flavour to my instant mashed potatoes when I make them. I add butter, sour cream, and dry ranch spice to these instant powdered potatoes to make them taste great! It might sound strange, but it tastes SO good.

You can pour the drained canned corn on top of the cooked ground beef while you make the mashed potatoes.

Put some mashed potatoes on top of the corn. Spread it out so that it’s a nice, even coat!

Add a lot of shredded cheese on top! I promise I won’t judge you if you load it up.

All that’s left to do is put the pan in the oven. Leave the lid off and cook for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese melts and everything is hot.

After cooking, let your shepherd’s pie cool down a bit. Then eat it!
